ADC Refutes Claims of Selecting Governorship Candidate for Osun 2026, Reaffirms Commitment to Transparent Primaries

The African Democratic Congress has strongly refuted widespread claims on social media suggesting that the party has already selected its candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election. The party described the circulating videos and posts as entirely false, misleading, and designed to misinform both party members and the public.

In a detailed statement released by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC clarified that no individual has been chosen or endorsed as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming Osun governorship contest. According to the statement, the public should disregard any assertions that contradict the party’s official position.

The ADC explained that preparations for the 2026 governorship primaries are fully underway and are being guided by a timetable already issued and widely publicised through official party channels. All aspirants across Osun State have been urged to adhere strictly to the procedures and requirements outlined in the timetable, as these form the basis for the transparent selection of the party’s standard-bearer.

Mallam Abdullahi stressed that the party remains unwavering in its commitment to the principles of internal democracy. He noted that the ADC prides itself on processes that uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability, especially when selecting candidates for major elections. According to him, any claim that the party has bypassed these procedures is not only false but contrary to the values that define the ADC.

He further emphasized that the party’s leadership will not tolerate attempts to manipulate public opinion or create unnecessary tension within the party. He urged supporters, party members, and the general public to rely solely on verified communications issued through the ADC’s official platforms and to dismiss any unofficial statements, videos, or posts suggesting otherwise.

The ADC concluded by reaffirming its readiness to conduct a credible and competitive primary election that reflects the will of its members in Osun State. The party urged all aspirants to remain focused, respectful of the process, and committed to the ideals of democratic engagement as preparations for the 2026 election continue to build momentum.
